VAN BUREN COUNTY – Van Buren County and the city of Spencer have each secured a $375,000 HOME program grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) to help local families with home repairs.
“With these funds, we have the opportunity to make a significant improvement in the quality of life of our neighbors,” said Van Buren County Mayor Greg Wilson. “We appreciate THDA’s investment in Van Buren County.”
“I am so proud that the city and county each will receive $375,000 for a total of $750,000. The HOME grant will go a long way to help families in our community get the home repairs they need,” said Spencer Mayor Mickey Robinson.
HOME program funding is intended to help families of low income, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities who cannot afford to bring their homes up to code. Officials anticipate helping as many as 19 homeowners with issues such as leaking plumbing, unsafe flooring, faulty wiring, damaged roofs, and more.
“The city of Spencer and Van Buren County earned these grants by putting together smart plans that are going to make an impact in the lives of families in need,” said THDA Community Outreach Liaison Denise McBride.
The HOME program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered in Tennessee by THDA. HOME grants must be used for the production, preservation, or rehabilitation of affordable housing for low- and very low-income families and individuals.
