With more than 25 years of leadership experience in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, Ray Mays was recognized for his lengthy track record of helping organizations thrive

Longtime local business leader and former U.S. Marine Corps Officer, Ray Mays, was recently recognized with a Silver Stevie® Award in the Lifetime Achievement category of The American Business Awards (ABA).

This is Mays’ second recognition in as many years, as he was named an Executive of the Year in the 2023 Best in Biz Awards.

Mays’ years of work with The Biz Foundry in Cookeville and Eye Centers of Tennessee (ECOTN) in Crossville, among his many other achievements, were honored. To be considered for a lifetime achievement award, honorees must have at least 20 years of experience, according to the ABA.

According to the release, Mays’ impressive resume, which includes helping grow ECOTN from a single-physician practice to its current status as the “leading eye care provider across the Upper Cumberland,” as well as co-founding The Biz Foundry, a startup incubator that has worked with more than 2,000 entrepreneurs, made him a prime candidate for the award.

“Ray is one of the hardest-working people you will ever meet,” said Larry Patterson, M.D., founder and medical director of ECOTN. “I am fortunate to have him as a friend and leader in my ophthalmology practice, and the founders and business owners he mentors through The Biz Foundry benefit significantly from the work he contributes to our community. Our staff is extremely proud of him for earning this well-deserved award.”

The 2024 ABA program is the 22nd year recognizing notable leaders and organizations across the United States. This year’s Stevie Awards winners will be honored at a banquet June 11, 2024, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

“While growth in much of the world economy has recovered slowly from the COVID-19 pandemic, the American economy continues to show remarkable resilience and growth,” said Stevie Awards president Maggie Miller. “Our 2024 Stevie winners have contributed to that successful recovery through their innovation, persistence and hard work. We congratulate all our winners in the 2024 ABAs and look forward to celebrating their achievements during our June 11 awards banquet in New York.”
