National Nurses Week, held annually during the second week in May, recognizes the nursing profession’s impact on health care

Nurses are a lifeline of society, sometimes, literally.

On May 8 at 3 p.m., Fortis Institute in Cookeville is celebrating nursing students with an open house in honor of National Nurses Week to unveil its brand-new nursing simulation lab, control room and debriefing rooms.

“This event offers a fantastic opportunity for students, instructors, and community members to come together, learn more about the nursing program and acknowledge the dedication and hard work of these students,” said Fortis in a statement.

According to the release, nursing consistently ranks as one of America’s most in demand professions.

“Fortunately, institutions like Fortis Institute in Cookeville provide a hands-on learning experience with a mix of traditional classroom instruction to prepare its students for an entry-level position in the nursing profession,” said Fortis.

Fortis Institute in Cookeville Campus President James Williamson and Dean of Nursing Steven Litteral will welcome prospective students to campus. During the event, prospective students can experience behind-the-scenes tours of the brand-new interactive nursing clinic control room and simulation labs. Hands-on experiences for visitors will include practicing chest compressions on simulation mannequins and exploring various lab activities that “showcase the innovative learning environment.”

National Nurses Week, held annually during the second week in May, recognizes the nursing profession’s impact on health care and honors the contributions made by nurses in history.

“Each year events culminate May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday, who is widely recognized as the “mother of modern nursing,”” according to the release.

Fortis Institute in Cookeville is located at 1025 Hwy. 111 in Cookeville.
