Meet the Candidates returns

COOKEVILLE – The Independence Day holiday begins the final march toward the most patriotic part of American life: voting.

News Talk 94.1/AM 1600 and Lite Rock 95.9 continue the tradition of introducing voters to the women and men who wish to serve on “Meet The Candidates.” The series returns to the air July 5.

The hour-long program airs weekdays at Noon on News Talk 94.1 and weeknights at 6 on Lite Rock 95.9.

The program features multiple candidates each day from races all across the Upper Cumberland. Each interview focuses on the candidate’s background, the issues that local residents are bringing up at forums and one-on-one meetings and how the candidate wants to serve a growing region’s issues and challenges.

“We want this show to give a local resident insight into who the candidate really is and what they stand for,” Stonecom President and General Manager Larry Stone said. “It’s less blue and red, less rhetoric and more about real conversation.”

A daily schedule featuring the candidates and races to be featured will be posted on social media each day. The shows will also be available on-demand for listeners who cannot catch one of the two airings daily.

“We picked two times of the day to give people the best chance to catch these important shows,” Stone said.

Stonecom is the dominant local content provider in the Upper Cumberland, focused on news, weather, sports, community events and local people. Stonecom also operates 93-3 The Dawg, 96-9 Highway 111 Country, Rock 93-7, 106-9 Kicks Country, Sports Radio 104.7 and 101.9/AM 920 WLIV. The company also serves Upper Cumberland high school athletes through UCSportsNation.Com.  The station will also host a 90-minute town meeting Tuesday, July 26 at 5:30pm featuring the candidates for Cookeville City Council. The forum will feature live questions from local residents via social media. Local leaders in various sectors of the community will also pose questions. It will air on multiple stations live July
