ECD names Young as Chamber director

CELINA – The Clay County Economic and Community Development board on Wednesday voted to appoint Dr. Doug Young as the new Clay County Chamber of Commerce director on a volunteer basis.

The ECD met in a special called session July 22 to replace Kevin Donaldson, who had given his two-week notice the week before. Donaldson has accepted a position with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Livingston.

Young made the offer to the ECD board to work as Chamber director in a non-paid volunteer capacity, and the board unanimously voted to accept his offer, with Young abstaining. Young has served as the volunteer director of the local ThreeStar for over 10 years and will continue to serve in that unpaid position.

“I’ve been an unpaid volunteer at the Chamber with the ThreeStar program for the past 11 years, and it’s been a great experience,” Young said after the meeting. “With Kevin accepting another job, I decided I wanted to offer my services as an unpaid, volunteer chamber director, and I appreciate the ECD board giving me this opportunity.

“As the new director, I welcome others who might want to volunteer to help in making Celina and Clay County a great place to live, work and play,” Young added. “We need your help, and we can find work for you to do.”

Donaldson will step aside as Chamber director on Monday, July 27, and Young will assume the full-time duties July 28.
