Facility Offers Workforce Training, Associate Degrees And Technical Programs
(UCBJ) – Roane State Community College’s new Fentress County Higher Education Center, a 49,000-square-foot facility at 823 Old Highway 127 S. in Jamestown, has been named the “Ken Yager & Jimmy Johnson Building” in honor of two local leaders who helped secure the college’s first permanent campus in the county.
The facility opened this fall, with classes beginning Aug. 19. Sen. Ken Yager and Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson were recognized during the naming ceremony.
“It’s an incredible honor to have this facility named after me,” Yager said. “I’m truly grateful for the recognition, but I know this was a collective effort.”
Johnson said the facility represents the hard work of many people.
“It humbles you to think you’ve been recognized for the work that’s been put into it, but I’m just one of the many small pebbles in a large creek,” Johnson said.
The facility offers associate degrees, certificates and technical programs in:
- Health science
- Automotive and diesel technology
- Welding
- Construction
- Manufacturing technology
“We are excited for the people of Fentress County to have a modern facility that will meet the needs of the local workforce, businesses, and the economy,” said Dr. Chris Whaley, president of Roane State.
The ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration will take place Aug. 24.
