Annual Event Draws Nearly 1,100 People to Cane Creek SportsPlex
(UCBJ) – The annual Averitt Cares for Kids Family Softball Tournament recently brought close to 1,100 attendees to the Cane Creek SportsPlex. In addition to Upper Cumberland-area residents, there were also several hundred associates and family members who made the trip from across Averitt’s system – from Florida to Texas, and from Oklahoma to Georgia and many points in between.
The tournament is named in honor of Averitt’s giving program that funds its non-profit charitable organization, Averitt Charities, through weekly contributions from associates.
Since 1990, Averitt Cares for Kids contributions have been designated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And in recognition of those efforts, representatives from St. Jude regularly attend the tournament and build on its special relationship with Averitt.
“The Averitt Cares for Kids Family Softball Tournament is one of our biggest traditions,” says President and Chief Operating Officer Barry Blakely. “Many of our associates make this event part of their vacations, bringing their families and building on the team culture that has made us a unique team for 55 years. I am excited that we once again had such an outstanding turnout for the tournament, and I look forward to seeing it grow even more in the future.”
In honor of everyone who played, cheered on family and friends or volunteered for the event, the company made a donation of $70,000 to Averitt Charities.
