COVID-19: Schools close across UC

UPPER CUMBERLAND – Gov. Bill Lee announced Monday all K-12 schools in the state should close by no later than Friday, March 20 to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

“As the response to COVID-19 evolves, I urge every school district in Tennessee to close as soon as practically possible,” Lee said.

Many schools across the region are on spring break this week and had taken measures to prepare for the possible closure. Others are scrambling and will close within days.

The announced schedule and additional details released are as follows:

Cannon County – Spring break March 16-20. All athletic events and practices are cancelled as of this date (03-16- 2020). Cannon County Schools will be developing plans to feed students, and deliver instruction to students also, after Spring Break during the Week of March 23. This delivery of instruction will occur in multiple ways – online and hard copy paper packets for students’ use. 

Clay County – Closed March 18-27.   

Cumberland County – Closed March 16-31. The Cumberland County School Nutrition Department will run the Food Service Bus starting March 17. One lunch and one snack will be available for any child 18 years old and younger. The child has to be present. They will be set up for a grab and go. This will take place Monday through Friday through March 31. See the BOE website for locations and times at www.ccschools.k12tn.net or call 931-484-6135.

DeKalb County – Closed until April 3

Fentress County – Closed until April 1, 2020

Cumberland County Schools – Closed through March 31

Jackson County – Closed through March 31. Information and updates will be posted on Social Media, School Websites and through automated phone calls.

Macon County – Closed through March 31.

Overton County – Closed through March 31.

Pickett County – Closed through March 31. 

Putnam County – All PCSS schools and activities will be canceled through March 31. SAC and Leaps services will be provided for participating families on March 17, but then canceled for the remainder of the closure.  

Smith County – Closed through March 27.

Van Buren County – Closed through. April 3.

Warren County – Closed through March 31. All athletics (games and practices) and extracurricular activities are cancelled until further notice. Further information will be provided on instructional assignments and distribution of meals for students later this week. 

White County – Closed through April 6.
