The store is transitioning to a new phase
According to the law offices of Jared and Jared (J&J), attorneys for the Alred Estate, longtime Cookeville business Appliance Mart (AM), located at 749 S Jefferson Avenue, is shopping for new ownership and not going out of business.
A recent report of the Cookeville Staple closing its doors is not accurate, According to J&J. The business is currently being shopped to prospective new owners and is not closing its doors but is in a transitional phase.
If you were expecting everything must go pricing, it’s not happening.
“We hired some experienced realtors,” said J&J. “to try to sell the business over to another person who can continue to run it.”
J&J says the appliance store has a lot of goodwill in the community. Following the death of owner Keith Alred Dec. 14, 2023, Lucille Alred, Keith’s wife, has kept the business afloat.
But all great things change, yet also stay the same.
“Keith Alred was one of the most like merchants in Cookeville,” according to J&J. “Practically everyone in Cookeville knew where his business was, and they knew they could get their appliances from him at a fair rate. We believe someone will take the business and go forward and continue to serve the community with Keith’s continuing goodwill.”
The building is rented, and the next owner would purchase the business only, including all stock and appliances. It’s uncertain if new owners will keep the name Appliance Mart, but with 50 years of sparkling reputation and dedicated customers, why would they not?
“Appliance Mart has had a favorable name in Cookeville for 50 years,” according to J&J.
