UC sales tax increase more than doubles state levels

UPPER CUMBERLAND – June 2020 sales tax numbers confirm that the Upper Cumberland region is bouncing back quicker than the rest of Tennessee with state sales tax revenues up 14.4% and local option sales tax revenues up 23.3% over June 2019 numbers.

The U.C. region more than doubled the state’s 6.3% increase. The disparity in the local option sales tax revenue increase was larger with the U.C. up 23.3% while the state was up only 9.2% over June 2019 numbers.

Pickett County led the U.C. in local sales tax growth at a 42.4% increase. Smith County at 5.3% growth was the only county experiencing less than a 20% increase.
