If the timeline holds the surgical center should be in operation in late 2024 or early 2025
What’s going up behind Ashley Furniture (Ashley) on Jackson Street in Cookeville?
A new ambulatory surgical center is making headway in the busy shopping area that includes Kohls Department Store (KOHLS) at 520 South Jackson. At least one Ashley employee told the Upper Cumberland Business Journal they are psyched the long-awaited CRMC/Tier 1 partnership finally taking shape.
Surgical center – Construction has begun.
Why? Because business may pick up.
According to a source, contractors are working with the city to turn part of the ever-popular KOHLS parking lot into an entrance for the facility. With 200-300 patients and visitors expected daily, waiting patients and families have plenty of time to take a stroll to surrounding stores and shops.
The facility fills a need for patients with musculoskeletal conditions by providing a “high-quality, cost-effective option for outpatient surgery.” In 2022, the Cookeville Regional Medical Center board of trustees voted to sign a Binding Letter of Intent to acquire a 20% interest in a new ambulatory surgical center on the site.
Foot traffic – Surrounding stores like Ashley Furniture are excited at the prospects of new foot traffic courtesy of the facility.
On April 1, 2022, Tier 1 purchased 7.21 acres of land worth $1M directly behind Ashley and adjacent to Kohls. At the time, it was reported a total project price tag of $20M. The Cookeville City Council later approved the transaction. Dirt has moved, foundation poured, and beams are rising to the sky as construction is in full swing on the facility.
If the original timeline holds, and that looks promising, the surgical center should be in operation in late 2024 or early 2025.
