New law increases percentage almost 10%

Cookeville – On July 1 the so-called “Garrison-Jordan Survivor Benefit Act” (GJSBA) will officially become state law in Tennessee.

The GJSBA increases workers’ compensation claims from 66 2/3% of the deceased average weekly wage to 75%. That is up to 100% of the state’s average weekly wage. It was signed by Governor Lee April 17.

The law also makes other specific changes to current law concerning death benefits in works compensation claims.
