State Rate Holds at 3.6% For Fourth Consecutive Month
(UCBJ) – Tennessee’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.6% in May. That marks the fourth consecutive month the state’s rate has held steady, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (Department).
“By comparing wages across industries such as health care, manufacturing, and transportation and warehousing, individuals can identify sectors that offer strong earning potential while also considering factors such as employment demand, industry growth, and long-term career stability,” according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The rate was slightly above the 3.5% recorded in May 2025 but remained below the national unemployment rate of 4.3%, which was unchanged from a year ago. Tennessee employers added 5,700 nonfarm jobs between April and May. The largest increases occurred in the leisure and hospitality sector, followed by durable goods manufacturing and government employment.
Over the past 12 months, Tennessee added 8,000 nonfarm jobs. The largest gains came in health care and social assistance, followed by administrative and support services and leisure and hospitality.
“These data resources serve as an important tool for connecting talent with opportunity and supporting long-term economic success,” according to the department.
