Associates Support Community Giving Through Shoe Drive Initiative
(UCBJ) – More than 400 associates and family members recently participated in the Averitt 5K and 1-Mile Walk on Averitt’s corporate campus, making it one of its largest-ever events. Close to 150 came to the in-person run, while hundreds more took part in the virtual option, bringing the total to an impressive 441 participants.

- Female 40-49: Sarah Wallace
- Male 50-59: Kerry Davis
- Female 50-59: Margaret Luna
- Male 60-plus: Larry Bussell
“Events like these are an important part of our team-oriented culture,” says Vice President of Human Resources Elise Leeson. “They also give our associates an opportunity to make healthy choices in a positive and fun environment.”
Additionally, this year’s Averitt 5K and 1-Mile Walk showcased Averitt’s commitment to giving back. Runners and walkers were encouraged to donate shoes for people in need as part of Averitt’s service initiative, the Team Up Community Challenge. In honor of associates’ generosity, the company gave a matching donation to Averitt Charities.
“Everything we do goes back to helping people succeed,” Leeson says. “We’re thankful for the way our associates step up to help others in our community, and it shows the type of people we have on our team.”
The Averitt 5K and 1-Mile Walk was part of the company’s comprehensive approach to associate well-being. Associates, spouses and their dependents ages 14-26 have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center at no cost on Averitt’s campus. Associates and covered dependents can also stay on top of their health at the Averitt Wellness Center, which offers health coaching, labs and treatment for a wide range of ailments.
