City has called for mutual from CFD, PCFD and AFD

UPDATE 5/6: The outage could continue for a few more days after officials have identified additional water line breaks. Clay County affected: A boil water advisory issued for Willow Grove residents until further notice.

While many schools across the Upper Cumberland have returned to normal following the recent snow event, Livingston is facing a water main issue that has impacted local businesses (including many restaurants) and schools. Customers may experience little or no water pressure.

Additional support is being provided by the Putnam County Fire Department (PCFD), Cookeville Fire Department (CFD) and the Algood Fire Department (AFD).

“AFD has responded and is supplying manpower to assist with operations during the outage. Cookeville Fire Department and Putnam County Fire Department also have units on scene providing support. Repair efforts are underway, and officials are hopeful for a timely restoration of service. Updates will be shared as more information or resources become available,” according to AFD.

The city has called for mutual aid.

“The CFD is providing one unit and crew for water shuttle operations if necessary, during the outage,” according to a statement.

Officials are “currently working on a repair and are hopeful for restoration soon.”

“Putnam County Fire Department has also answered the call, sending additional units.,” according to the statement.

According to sources, Schools in the area are expected to remain closed for the rest of the week.

“Crews are working to repair the issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” said Livingston PD (LPD) in a statement.

Portable water distribution sites are also being established, and residents are advised to check social media for updates. Portable water must still be boiled before drinking, but can be used for bathing, toilets and other non-consumption purposes without boiling.

Officials also remind residents to:

  • Turn off water heaters to prevent damage when water runs out.
  • Follow the boil water mandate, effective until further notice

“…inevitably, until the leak is found and repaired, water will run out,” according to Overton/Pickett E-911..
