“We are excited to receive another clean audit with no findings again this year.” – Mayor Randy Porter.

For the second straight year, Putnam County’s 2024–2025 Comptroller Audit, a comprehensive financial review of the county’s handling of public funds, found no issues, according to a release from Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter.

Audits allow community confidence in accountability and transparency and reassure taxpayers that:

  • money is being handled properly
  • officials are following the law
  • everything is properly documented.

The goal is to find weaknesses before they become problems.

“We are excited to receive another clean audit with no findings again this year,” according to Porter. This makes the second year in a row we have received no findings on our audits, and 9 out of the past 11 years that County General, where most of the county departments and officials’ finances are, has had no audit findings.

What does the audit examine:

  • County finances (budgets, bank accounts, debt)
  • Internal controls (who can approve, spend and record money)
  • Compliance with state law (purchasing rules, payroll, grants)
  • Accuracy of records (are the books clean and supported?)
  • Risk of fraud or misuse (even if no one is accused)

Porter said the clean audit reflects the work of county officials who ensure operations run properly.

“Kudos to all the employees in the County Mayor’s office, all our Elected Officials, Department Heads, employees and School officials. It takes a team to make this happen, and we have a great one!” according to the release.
