J. Cumby Construction promotes two to VP posts

COOKEVILLE – Local builder J. Cumby Construction recently announced some changes to its staff, promoting two to vice president positions.

Michael Silvey has been named vice president of operations and safety. In that role, Silvey is responsible for all on-field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on-time and on-budget while maintaining all aspects of quality.

He has been with J. Cumby Construction for three-and-a-half years and is Project Management Professional certified. He also completed a construction safety and health certificate program through Georgia Tech University and is an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer.

Silvey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Tennessee Tech University and has been in the engineering or construction industries since 2005. 

Meanwhile, Greg Shirley is taking on the role of vice president of pre-construction. Shirley, who has been with J. Cumby Construction for over four years, will take projects from the bid or negotiated phase through estimating, planning, scheduling and budgeting to start of construction. He will also monitor construction as it progresses to ensure that schedule and budget targets are met.

Shirley has spent more than 20 years in the construction industry. He earned both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tennessee Tech University.
