Exchange to hold three new classes this summer

Crossville – The Dogwood Exchange (the Exchange) has announced multiple new classes at 92 E. first Street in Crossville. Susan English will instruct students in a 4-session class on the basics of working with stained glass. Students will learn how to make a pattern, cut, grind, foil and solder-stained glass. Stained glass for the project will be provided.

“Use our tools or bring your own,” said the Exchange in a release. “The cost for this class is $125 and a limited number of students are being accepted.”

Class dates are:

Wednesday, June 14th 9-12 CST

Saturday, June 17th 9-12 CST

Monday, June 19th 9-12 CST

Wednesday, June 21st 9-12 CST

Students must be able to attend all 4 sessions and are required to wear safety glasses and closed toed shoes. Sandals and flip flops are not allowed. Those who show up in open toed shoes will not be permitted in class, according to the Exchange.

On June 24, Sarah Dixon is back at Dogwood Exchange. She will be holding a goat soap making class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. In the class, Dixon will hold a step-by-step demonstration of the cold process method of soap making.

Class – Goat soap.

The cost is $30 per person. Students will receive a complete ingredients/materials list plus, “a wonderful bar of goat’s milk soap will be included with the class.”

“Her last class sold out so register early,” said the Exchange.

In another cool class, Susan Smathers is offering an alcohol ink class. According to the Exchange, Smathers began learning about alcohol inks four years ago and she enjoyed the way they moved differently than other types of paints.

Class – Alcohol Ink.

“In this class, students get to try alcohol inks on photo paper, yupo paper and metal,” said the Exchange. “A few of the techniques that will be involve plastic wrap, sponges and stencils. Learning how the inks move and interact is part of the fun. Each person can be so creative with alcohol inks whether you like abstracts or more realist artwork. Beginners are welcome.”

The class will be held June 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m and all supplies will be provided with the $35 class fee.

“If students have any alcohol inks they particularly like, they can bring them to the class,” said the Exchange.
