UPDATED: Ralph’s Donuts voted best in Tennessee

COOKEVILLE – Fans of Ralph’s Donuts have voted the Cookeville shop best in Tennessee.

Ralph’s, a local institution since 1962, this week won a 32-“team” contest, called the Tennessee Donut Brawl, bracketed much like an NCAA tournament, for the title best donut maker in the state.

After landslide victories against Dickson Donuts in the elite eight and Gatlinburg’s The Donut Friar in the final four, Ralph’s topped Franklin’s Ellie’s Old Fashioned Doughnuts in the finals with 21,808 votes, or 53 percent. Voting ended Wednesday when the winner was announced before the noon hour.

The contest was held by Scoutology, a community-specific news site.

Last year, Ralph’s was ranked among its top 25 donut makers in the country for its apple fritter by The Daily Meal, a culinary website, the only shop in Tennessee.
