Mayberry served Crossville through multiple roles, leaving a lasting impact on residents and city employees
(UCBJ) – The City of Crossville (City) is mourning the passing of one of its most esteemed and beloved citizens and public servants. City Council member and longtime business owner James Mayberry has passed away, according to a release.
Mayberry was the owner of Mayberry’s Home Furnishings (MHF), a staple within the community and the Upper Cumberland. MHF recently opened a new location in Cookeville. The City of Crossville honored Mayberry’s commitment to the city, highlighting his leadership, practical perspective and willingness to serve.
“Today, we join our community in mourning the passing of Council Member James Mayberry,” the City of Crossville said. “Council Member Mayberry devoted himself to serving our city with integrity, commitment, and a genuine desire to make our community a better place. His leadership, practical perspective, and willingness to step up and serve will leave a lasting impact on the City and all who had the honor of working with him.”
Mayberry was known for his steady presence, kindness and dedication to improving Crossville, according to the statement
“Around the council table, and throughout our community, he was known for his steady presence, kindness, and genuine care for others,” the city said. “For those of us who had the privilege of working alongside James, we will remember his friendship, his sense of humor, his common sense, and his unwavering dedication to improving our city.”
The City spoke to Mayberry’s family through the release, recognizing his service.
“On behalf of the Mayor, City Council, and all City employees, we extend our deepest sympathy to the Mayberry family,” the city said. “We pray they find comfort in the love that surrounds them and strength in the impact James made through his service and compassion.”
“He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always appreciated.”
