Cookeville Christmas Parade cancelled

COOKEVILLE – Due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus and the growing number of cases in our area, the 2020 Cookeville-Putnam County Christmas Parade has been cancelled.

The Cookeville-Putnam County Parade Committee issued a statement Thursday afternoon stating that the chamber board had voted not to request an exemption permit from the city of Cookeville.

“With the hospital nearing capacity and the risk to not only spectators but those gathering to make the floats themselves, we believe that the risk is too high and choose to take on responsibility to act in the best interest of the general public,” said the statement.

The cancellation of the parade does not mean that other Christmas events will be cancelled, as voiced in the statement:

“Christmas will still be celebrated in Cookeville this year and we look forward to the return of this historical community event in 2021.”

Details regarding the Cookeville Christmas Tree Lighting have not been finalized as of this publication.
