85 year old company heading back to roots
In the last 5 to 10 years, Winnell Lee Mouldings and Hardwoods (WL), a custom hardwood manufacturer in Cookeville, has built three new buildings just outside of the Boma Community Center in Baxter.
The 85-year-old company was prepping for a trip back to its roots, WL told the Upper Cumberland Business Journal. After 34 years in Cookeville, WL is boxing things up and headed to Baxter to continue its business journey, which has lasted the better part of a century.
Along with the three new buildings, WL has been busy adding new equipment and machinery and are now ready to build two large warehouses and a showroom in the area.
The move to Cookeville all those years ago was profitable, according to WL.
“Opening a showroom and warehouse in Cookeville over 30 years ago was a very profitable and rewarding move for The Winell Lee Lumber Company,” said the company. “This move allowed us to showcase our craftsmanship to a broader audience. This also allowed us to work with other businesses and organizations collectively to make a difference in our County and beyond.”
With that growth came the need for space and further expansion.
“Just as moving to Cookeville was the correct move, moving back to our Baxter Roots is the correct move,” said WL. “We will have plenty of customer parking, plenty of room for large trailer trucks to load and unload.”
Moving home and once again becoming a part of the growing community where it all started is important to the company.
“We are so elated that our Baxter community is growing and we want to continue to grow with them,” said WL. “We just celebrated 85 years and 5 generations and excited about our next milestone!”
WL serves the Upper Cumberland, Nashville, Knoxville and surrounding areas. It offers stocked and custom hardwood materials including siding, custom trim and millwork, moulding, flooring, cabinetry, paneling, columns, porch posts, stairway systems and mantles.
“If you’re looking for something special to give your home a lift or are interested in a single-source hardwood specialist, Winell Lee is the answer,” according to winnelllee.com. “Our talented staff of experienced professionals stands ready to assist you every step of the way. You can rest assured, knowing the building of your dreams will be every bit as wonderful as you have imagined.”
The custom hardwood manufacturer is expected to be out of its 510 West Jackson Street location by June 1. WL is open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
