COOKEVILLE – WCTE PBS celebrates 44 years of being on the air on Aug. 21 with a Day of Support. In honor of this day, WCTE PBS will host a five-hour broadcast event on WCTE PBS starting at 1 p.m. through 6 p.m. The show special will visit the past, present and future of WCTE PBS with some new and old footage, and new and familiar faces. The on-air event will build the case for funding the WCTE Education Endowment which is in its fifth year. The endowment fund is an investment portfolio made possible by local donors that believe in supporting early learning initiatives in the Upper Cumberland.
In 2018 WCTE PBS celebrated 40-years of service to the Upper Cumberland and to mark this milestone, WCTE PBS established its first Endowment for Education. This fund has been supported by WCTE PBS Trustees, individual donors and corporations and was established to provide parents, teachers and community partners with the tools and education resources they need.
“WCTE PBS went on the air 44 years ago on Aug. 21. We thought it was only appropriate to celebrate by raising money for the core reason WCTE PBS exists,” said Avery Hutchins, WCTE PBS President and CEO. “One hundred percent of the money raised from the Day of Support will go to the WCTE PBS Education Endowment.”
A fund like the WCTE PBS Education Endowment will help ensure that at-risk children affected by poverty in our region can get the access to quality education needed to overcome their challenges. Many children in the Upper Cumberland are isolated, have limited resources and lack education opportunities, and over time this creates generational poverty and disheartening challenges among our children.
