CELINA — The Tennessee Arts Commission and the Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) announce that Clay County has been awarded the Targeted Arts Grant for arts enhancement of the county’s historic courthouse.
Clay County, with assistance from UCDD, applied for and was awarded the amount of $3,500 with no matching funds required. This is the second investment by the Tennessee Arts Commission for this project.
The Clay County government will continue restoration of their historic courthouse, Tennessee’s second oldest operating courthouse in Tennessee, developing the upstairs courtroom as a theater. The courtroom has served as the venue for multiple plays and musical performances. These grant funds will allow for the purchase of additional sound and lighting equipment. Partners include the Clay County Chamber of Commerce, Upper Cumberland Development District, the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Center for Historic Preservation and local arts teachers.
