COOKEVILLE – The walls have been raised, the roof has been placed, and bricks are being laid. A wound care clinic that will expedite treatment for patients – the first of its kind in the Upper Cumberland – is quickly nearing completion. Organizers are now preparing for a summer debut.

Brian Harden, administrator at Middle Tennessee Surgical Specialists, said the 4,000-square-foot clinic, to be named the Advanced Wound Center at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, is set for a mid-June opening. The center is being built as an attachment to the Middle Tennessee Surgical Specialists building at 203 N. Cedar Ave. It will be leased to Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC).

“This has been a project that’s been many years in the making, and it’s finally coming to fruition,” Harden told the UCBJ. “I would say the exterior’s 70-80 percent complete, and the landscaping, the parking lot and those kind of things will all be done over the next couple days. It’s moving right along.”

The clinic, once complete, will include five exam rooms for comprehensive wound care treatment. It will also feature two hyperbaric oxygen wound chambers, which help expedite the healing process. That will be a new service for the region.

The clinic is a partnership between Middle Tennessee Surgical Specialists, CRMC, and Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services, which acquired Accelecare Wound Centers in March.

Harden said Dr. Scott Copeland, a general and vascular surgeon at Middle Tennessee Surgical, will serve as medical director for that facility.
