Dawn M. Fry, business professor at Tennessee Tech, has been elected to a two-year term as Vice Chair of the Utrust board of trustees.

Utrust is a statewide organization that helps local school boards with unemployment, employee recognition, development and appreciation and sponsors the Utrust Appreciation Program. Out of seven trustees governing the statewide program, Fry (Vice chairman of the Putnam County Board of Education (BOE)) is one of two school board members representing Middle Tennessee on the board. She has been a trustee on the Utrust board of trustees since 2016 and a member of the BOE since 2012.

According to a release, during that time trustees of Utrust have funded more than $8M in grants. Those grants went to provide much needed equipment and supplies (student recognition and appreciation was also funded) to principals and teachers in 51 school districts where the budget didn’t fund such things.

“She has provided strong support for the Utrust Appreciation Program, a student leadership program that teaches students to recognize and express appreciation to people who do things daily to make their lives better,” according to the release. “The program also encourages faculty members to recognize the accomplishments of individual students and to be intentional about regularly recognizing their accomplishments and expressing appreciation to them.”

Dr. Dan Tollett, Utrust Administrator says Fry has earned his respect.

“Dawn Fry is a valuable member of the Utrust board of trustees and has rapidly gained respect for her leadership qualities,” said Tollet. “She has a heart for children and she’s a strong and thoughtful advocate for school employees. Her experience on the local school board and as a parent, attorney and community leader has been very helpful to our board. It is an advantage to Putnam County to have one of its members serving in a leadership position on our board of trustees.”

David Jones, Utrust Board Chairman said the day Fry joined was a great day for the Board.

“It was a great day for our board when Dawn Fry joined us. We could not hope for a better Vice Chair. She is intelligent and articulate, and she is committed to doing her best to make our board function at the highest possible level. She has attended every meeting of the board of trustees since becoming a member and when she speaks, her ideas are respected and significantly contribute to the decision-making process.”

She is the mother of twins – a son and a daughter. She has been a member of the Putnam County Board of Education since 2012.
