COOKEVILLE – An upcoming job fair will bring together nearly 50 area employers in a multi-agency effort Thursday.

Officials with the state of Tennessee and Goodwill Career Solutions met initially in mid-April to discuss the event, which is a partnership between Goodwill, the Cookeville Career Center, Pacesetters and American Job Center. The number of committed employers has since jumped from 31 to 48. Companies are searching to fill at least 500 vacancies, from highway patrol officers, over-the-road drivers and correctional officers as well as positions in construction, health care and customer service and administration. Pay rates reach $65,000 per year.

“This is one of the biggest job fairs we have had in our 48-county territory in several years,” Chris Fletcher, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee spokesman, said in an email.

The job fair is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Cookeville Career Center, 580 S. Jefferson Ave., Suite B, Cookeville.

The job fair is one of several events planned by the Cookeville Goodwill Career Solutions Center to celebrate Goodwill Industry tries Week, May 2-6. Goodwill Industries Week is traditionally celebrated via local events and promotions. Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee helped more than 500 people in Putnam County find jobs in 2015, according to report issued by the non-profit earlier this year.
