Longevity and loyalty defined, two traits often lost in today’s business climate where employees come and go

Cookeville – Office Mart (OM) has been a part of Cookeville’s business community for 40 years. Janice Terry has been with the company for 34 of those years. Recently, Terry retired, focusing her time and heart on her grandchildren.

It is that heart that OM says makes her so important to not only the company’s bottom line but also its success and longevity in the Upper Cumberland.

“Janice has been the heart of our team,” said company President, Paul Payne.

In 1997, Terry stepped away from the company to focus time on raising her children, but it was only a matter of time before she returned. She did so in 2002. She is longevity and loyalty defined, two traits often lost in today’s business climate where employees come and go. Originally a sales rep when OM was named Discount Office Equipment, Inc., she soon worked her way into operations and finance management where she was responsible for furnishing government offices and businesses throughout the Upper Cumberland.

“It has been my pleasure and honor to be of service to my Office Mart friends and customers over the past 30 plus years in Cookeville and all the Upper Cumberland region,” said Terry reflecting on her time at Office Mart. “I want to express my gratitude for so many long-term customers who have felt like family to me. I’ve always tried to treat customers the way I would want to be treated, not just trying to make a sale but helping my customers with their needs. Also, I have to say a very special thank you to Paul, Becky and Bryan Payne for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Office Mart family all these years.”

Terry knew the customers and understood their needs, according to OM. Honesty, integrity and kindness has set her apart.

“Janice has worked for both Office Mart and Industry Mart for almost four decades. In that time, she worked as bookkeeper, personnel manager and inside and outside sales. She has served our company well with honesty, integrity and kindness to fellow employees and customers alike,” said Payne. “We are very sad to see her go, but we wish her all the best in her retirement. We have been very fortunate to have had such an exemplary representative for our company for so many years.”

There is a lot to be said for heart, isn’t there?
