American flags are displayed on Tech’s main quad in honor of Veterans Day

Cookeville – It is a time to give thanks.

With Veterans Day on the horizon, those who gave all for the freedoms that so many take for granted will be celebrated from sea to shining sea. Locally, Tennessee Tech is being recognized for its “commitment to our nation’s service members,” according to the University.

“Military Times named Tech a 2023 “Best for Vets” university, joining a select list of only 325 universities nationwide. Tech is ranked No. 21 in the Appalachian region,” said Tech in a release.

The university was recognized for its U.S. Department of VA work-study opportunities, its priority registration for student veterans and the range of services offered by its dedicated Office of Military & Veteran Affairs on campus, according to the release.

Tech is hosting a events for Veterans Week on Nov. 6 – 10.

“At Tennessee Tech, we honor the service and sacrifice of all our student veterans, and we are dedicated to helping them thrive on our campus,” said Mary McCaskey, director of financial aid and veteran affairs at Tech. “Whether it is helping veterans maximize their VA education benefit, connecting them to our Student Veterans Organization or giving them a dedicated space to relax and recharge at our Eagle’s Wing Veterans Center, we are here to serve those who have served our country. We appreciate Military Times’ recognition of our strong commitment to veterans and their families.”

Tech was also recognized by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business, with its 2023 – 2024 “Military Friendly School” designation.

“Veterans and their families can know that, at Tennessee Tech, they will find a welcoming campus community that honors their patriotism and is eager to save them a place,” said McCaskey.
