CHATTANOOGA – TDOT personnel and contract crews have been working to stabilize a section of SR-68 near log mile 5 in Rhea County that recently was closed due to a slide. After assessing the work that has been done so far, it has been determined that the roadway is safe to be reopened to one lane for light traffic only, such as cars, pickup trucks and school buses. This will take place on Saturday morning, May 12, 2018. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal.

No heavy commercial vehicles will be allowed to travel through the slide area. TDOT personnel will be manning checkpoints at each end of the project to ensure that this directive is followed.

Meanwhile, TDOT forces and crews from GSI, LLC will continue working in the area to further stabilize and reinforce the roadway so it can be fully reopened to two lanes and all traffic. Drivers are urged to be patient as they travel on SR-68 and to watch out for crews as they work in the area.
