One of nation’s largest full-service chicken processors employs over 250 people at four plants
Gold Creek Foods (GCF), one of the nation’s largest full-service chicken processors, is one of several businesses in the market for the building that currently houses Perdue Food Group (PF) in Monterey, according to sources.
“We strive to provide our customers with the utmost quality and value in everything we do. We believe collaboration with our customers is the key to our success,” according to GCF.
This news is on the heels of the announcement by Perdue that it wouldclose its Monterey facility on March 28, 2025. The closure will eliminate 433 jobs in the area. The 105-year-old company says the decision comes “after a thorough strategic business and financial review of the plant’s performance and its future viability,” according to a release.
PF says the company’s “overall focus” is on continuous improvement and modernization.
GCF began as a dream of Mark Sosebee who founded Agora Foods (Agora) in 2000. Agora would soon become Gold Creek Distributors, LLC (GCD), a company specializing in trading, marketing and distributing frozen poultry. GCD then transformed into Gold Creek Foods, LLC in 2004.
By 2022, GCF employed over 250 people, increased production to four plants and began a commodities program that covers more than a 72% market share and “more than doubled its presence in the K-12 commodity segment,” according to the company.
GCF’s mission is clear, “Our mission is to provide the greatest value possible to our customers.”
