Maryville – Smith and Wesson Inc. (SW), one of the leading firearm producers in the world, announced on their Facebook page recently they will host the grand opening of the Maryville Headquarters Oct. 7 at 1852 Proffit Springs Road in Maryville.
The celebration which SW is calling “Grand Opening and Fall Festival” will begin at Noon.
If you are interested in attending, event entry can be purchased starting Sept. 1 and all proceeds will go to local Tennessee charities.
SW has been in business for 170 years when Horace Smith and D.B. Wesson formed a partnership to manufacture a firearm that could fire a fully self-contained cartridge in 1852. By 1854 the company achieved that goal with .41 magazine pistol “the volcanic” which was the first repeating American firearm to successfully use a self-contained cartridge. SW has been a major player in the industry ever since.
