Report Says Prichards Foods Property Is Under Contract

(UCBJ) – Prichards Foods Grocery Store (Prichards) at 855 Brush Creek Road in Alexandria is under contract, and a new grocery store is expected to occupy the space this fall, according to a report by The Smithville Review.

According to that report, owners Tony and Jamie Nicole Bates said the grocery store will operate under a new name, though one has not yet been announced. Closing on the property is expected in August. According to Tony, some issues will need to be addressed before the new store opens.

From the Smithville Review:

“I know the freezers and refrigeration have some problems, so we’ll have to get those fixed, and there are some water issues. The building sat for a long time, so we’re going to have to go over everything and make sure it’s all working," he said.

“There will be a name change, but we haven’t decided what it will be yet. This has been a mission from God, and we are receiving some amazing support,” Bates said.

Prichards’ closed early last year following a report in 2024 that owner Stein Edward Prichard was indicted on four counts of forgery.

From the report:

“We want a store that offers the quality food people deserve,” Tony said.

He said they plan to offer shoppers fresh produce, quality meats, and everyday essentials, with the friendly hometown service shoppers can be proud of.

“If everything goes right, we might be opening around October or November,” Tony said. “We’ve been working hard to make this happen, and we really appreciate the encouraging support we’re receiving.”
