PUTNAM COUNTY – This week, Nov. 15 – 19, is American Education Week where the Putnam County School System honors the team of people who work in Tenessee public schools.
“This past Monday, we kicked off American Education Week. It takes a village of people to make the school system operate. This past school year leading into the current one, we have seen that more than ever as we continue to walk through a pandemic and face the challenges it brings,” said Corby King, Director of Putnam County School System. “We have exceptional public schools in Putnam County. We are incredibly blessed to have school system staff and families who show up every day for the greater good of the students to ensure their success. Everyone from our families, bus drivers, classroom teachers to the cafeteria workers, maintenance, janitors, substitutes, technology personnel, counselors, administrative staff, bookkeepers, coaches, grade and classroom assistants, and countless others – we are grateful for them and honor them this week.”
In honor of American Education Week, Putnam County schools recognized the following days:
Wednesday, Nov. 17 – Education Support Professionals (ESP) Day
This day honored a long list of professionals who keep schools running smoothly. Some are behind the scenes while others are smiling as each student goes through the cafeteria line or walks down the halls.
Friday, Nov. 19 – Substitute Educators Day
When a teacher is unable to be in the classroom, substitutes are there to fill their shoes. This day celebrates PCSS substitute teachers for their willingness to step in and lead classrooms by providing continuity of daily education as well as care for PCSS students.
“American Education Week is always celebrated prior to the week of Thanksgiving, which I believe is fitting because we have a lot to be thankful for. I am grateful for the PCSS staff, school board, leaders, and our families. With that being said, Thursday, Nov. 18 is National Parental Involvement Day. Throughout the year there are opportunities for families to engage in their child’s education and we fully welcome and encourage that. This day is to honor our parents as they make a difference in the life of their children by investing in their education and supporting student success,” said King.
