Ribbon cutting will take place on June 17
The Cookeville–Putnam County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) will be on hand to celebrate upgrades to the Mayor Nathan Walker Sports Complex at Black Bottom in Monterey.
“This special ribbon cutting will unveil the new facility sign, showcase the newly renovated bathrooms and concessions, and highlight the resurfaced softball and soccer fields, home of the Wildcat Soccer Teams,” according to the Chamber.
The ribbon cutting will take place June 17 at 316 Whittaker Street in Monterey from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“Come help us celebrate these incredible improvements and the continued investment in Monterey’s sports and recreation spaces,” according to the Chamber.
Built in 2022, so Burkes Middle School’s soccer teams would have a home field, the facility was a dream realized with a $200,000 appropriation from the state Legislature. The dreamer, then Mayor Nathan Walker, is now the facility’s namesake. But its more than just a name, it’s a tribute. Mayor Walker died from an aggressive form of cancer before the dream could be realized.
The facility is new and improved now, and those who visit are welcomed with a sign that bears the name of the dreamer who made it all happen.
