Mayors establish committee to oversee relief fund

COOKEVILLE – Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton and Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter announced they have officially appointed a seven-member committee to oversee and direct the disbursements of the Cookeville Putnam County Tornado Relief Fund.

The committee consists of Chairman Bob Bell, Lillian Hartgrove, Leon Burns, Katelyn Steakley, Micah Johnson, Ben Rodgers and Mark Miller. John Bell and Melinda Keifer will serve in an administrative, non-voting committee capacity.

“We have organized this committee to optimally serve the victims using best practices from other charitable organizations and foundations so that 100% of these funds will be directed to our victims,” said Shelton.

“Mayor Porter and I will continue to help raise funds to flow into the relief fund but will have no say or direction in how those monies are disbursed,” Shelton added. “Those decisions will be solely decided and administered by the appointed committee.”

“The committee will be meeting next week to prepare a process and procedure for moving forward,” said Porter. “We appreciate these citizens that have agreed to serve to serve in this important task.”

More details will follow once plans are established.
