The store has seen the trends come and go
Cantrell’s Clothing (Flutys) in Smithville recently celebrated 60 Years. The Smithville-Dekalb County Chamber of Commerce was on hand for the event.
“We love Fluty, Marilyn, Deana and their amazing staff,” said the Chamber.
From wide legs to skinny jeans and back to wide legs, Cantrell’s has seen every phase of business over the years. Pleated pants to straight pants and back to pleated pants again.
“In 1964 we decided we would go into business,” said co-owner Phillip “Fluty” Cantrell (Fluty). “We didn’t know anything about business.”
Fluty and his wife Marilyn started the business just out of high school. They were 19 and 18.
“It’s a continuous circle,” said Fluty. “Everyone was taking bets on if we would make it … 60 years ago. Thank you to our home county and surrounding counties for keeping us up.”
Family owned since 1964, Flutys specializes in women and men’s clothing and shoes and has always been the go-to for prom gear.
“We also have a big variety of children’s shoes,” according to the store.
