Announcement comes a year after the restaurant announced its opening

Scotty D’s (SD) in Cookeville announced it will shutter the doors Sept. 25.

The Facebook announcement comes almost one year after the burger joint originally filled the space at 310 W Broad Street once occupied by longtime Cookeville favorite Mini Burger. Mini Burger was a staple at that location for more than 50 years before closing its doors due to “financial struggles” in Aug. 2023.

In September of last year, New York natives Scotty and Donna Danzig scooped up the location with plans to open SD.

“This year has been a tough medical year,” SD posted on Facebook. “Scott (Danzig) had back surgery earlier in the year and now he needs shoulder surgery.”

Closing was the restaurant’s only option, according to the company.

“For those of you that have come in, you have seen Scott working in a sling because he did not want to close again,” according to the post. “Unfortunately, this surgery is going to be a minimum of a six-month recovery period per the surgeon we met with earlier this week.”

There is hope, however. Cross your fingers SD lovers.

“Once he is well, maybe we will see you again in a different location but one step at a time,” SD said. “We have enjoyed meeting many people of Cookeville and surrounding towns and are coming away with many that we consider friends.”
