Competitors must perform one original song

Livingston – The Livingston Overton County Chamber of Commerce and Iron & Oak Event Center, home of Americanaville, will host one of the official qualifying rounds for the 2023 TN Songwriters Week. All singer/songwriters in all genres are eligible to compete.

The event will be held Thursday, February 9 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at 208 South Church Street, Livingston, and twenty spots are available. The winner of the qualifying round will advance to seven pre-determined showcase event venues across the state from Feb. 19-25.

Competitors may only select one location to sign-up, and if an entrant signs up for more than one location, the entrant will be removed from the list and/or waitlisted from all locations. State employees are not eligible.

Competitors must perform one original song (which the competitors owns and/or retains rights to perform and either wrote or co-wrote) not to exceed five minutes. They will be asked to provide a lyrics sheet and may sing acapella or have live accompaniment.

Light percussion is allowed if there is no set-up time necessary.  Competitors may bring up to two performers to play accompanying instruments. Backup tracks are not permitted. Every performance will be judged by a panel of at least 3 individuals from the music community in and around Tennessee.

Competitors will be evaluated by song quality and scored on a scale of 1-10. Considerations will be, lyrical originality (lack of cliches and clarity of the narrative), performance score on a scale of 1-6 (considering instrumental sound), ability of the audience to audibly understand the lyrics and connection with the audience.
