8,000-plus head of cattle annually in a 20,000 square foot USDA-certified facility
According to a release, 70 Acres Butchery (70AB) is set to break ground in January 2026 on a 20,000 square foot facility on 7.5 acres along Highway 111 in Overton County. The new “state-of-the-art” cattle processing facility is expected to create 50-plus high-paying jobs in the area.
“Our experienced staff will ensure efficient, humane and professional processing throughout every stage of our operation,” according to a release by 70AB.
Construction is set to begin in January.
“This project will create 50-plus high-paying jobs while processing 8,000-plus head of cattle annually in a 20,000 square foot USDA-certified facility, providing vital support to farmers and ranchers across Tennessee and neighboring states,” according to the Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber).
Edwin W. Leslie-Kubat, CEO of 70AB says the company is thrilled with the project’s quick progress.
“After more than a year of planning, we’re thrilled to be moving forward with construction in Overton County,” said Edwin W. Leslie-Kubat, CEO of 70 Acres Butchery. “This facility will create more than 50 high-paying jobs and provide vital support for farmers and cattle producers across Tennessee and neighboring states.”
Livingston County County Executive Steven Barlow welcomes the company. He says the addition will be a boon for the economy.
“We’re proud to welcome 70 Acres Butchery to Overton County. This project represents a major investment in our local economy and agricultural community.”
The project should help both farmers and the local workforce and will “fill a critical gap in the regional beef supply chain while maintaining the highest standards for quality and humane practices.”
“The Chamber is working with 70 Acres Butchery as they bring this state-of-the-art facility to Overton County,” said Zach Stephens, President & CEO of the Livingston/Overton County Chamber of Commerce. “We’re collaborating with state and local partners to ensure this project strengthens our agricultural heritage while creating new opportunities for our farmers and workforce.”
A year in the making, 70AB says it is thrilled to be working with Overton County and says the new development addresses critical gaps in the regional beef supply chain.
Those include:
- Limited availability of reliable, high-quality USDA-certified cattle processing and slaughter services in our region.
- Aging infrastructure in the industry is leading to delays and inefficiencies for local producers.
- A concerning lack of environmentally friendly and humane slaughter practices in the region. Increased consumer demand for domestic beef, driven by reduced international imports, has created a substantial shortfall in U.S. beef production capacity.
“These challenges present a clear opportunity for 70 Acres Butchery to establish a state-of-the-art cattle processing and slaughter facility. By addressing these issues, we cannot only meet the growing demand for quality beef but also set new industry standards for efficiency, sustainability and animal welfare,” says 70AB.
