Compass Pediatrics and other small businesses across the country will be celebrated for their achievements and essential contributions to their communities

Nashville – The Tennessee SBA District Office awarded its 2023 Small Business Person of the Year Award to Dr. Jonathan Scott Huitink, Pediatrician & President and Mary Kathryn Oliver, pediatric nurse practitioner & Owner of Compass Pediatrics. Founded by pediatric doctor and Army veteran Scott Huitink and nurse practitioner Mary Kathryn Oliver, Compass Pediatrics has grown to include eight employees since its launch in August 2019.

The practice has been recognized by Main Street Gallatin and Sumner Parent Magazine as one of the top three pediatric clinics in Sumner County, with a Google rating of 4.9 from parents. Huitink and Oliver sought professional business advice and funding assistance from the Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) at Volunteer State Community College in the winter of 2018.

According to the SBA, the TSBDC helped them find the right funding and create a realistic business plan, which led to the opening of Compass Pediatrics in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Compass Pediatrics adapted to the challenge by becoming the first practice in Sumner County to offer telemedicine as a routine option for families. The practice provides compassionate and comprehensive care for children from birth through young adulthood, working as a partner in their medical decisions.

During National Small Business Week, Compass Pediatrics and other small businesses across the country will be celebrated for their achievements and essential contributions to their communities.
