The tradition is not possible without community support

The Rains Foundation, founded in 2004 by Steve Rains in memory of his father, Lyndon Rains, is hosting “a day of giving and golf” at its upcoming Golf Tournament “FUNdraiser.”

Great news. You are invited. Better hit the range this afternoon. The tournament is Aug. 10 at Golden Eagle Golf Club at 1500 Country Club Road Cookeville.

“Join the foundation in honoring Steve Rains’ mission to provide deserving individuals with scholarships for Tennessee Tech University and continuing his commitment to making a positive impact in the community,” said the foundation in a release.

Not your typical golf tournament.

“This isn’t your typical golf tournament,” said Wayne Cravens, board member of The Rains Foundation. “This event puts the fun in fundraiser! It is an entertainment experience! Rather than the typical 18 holes and some food, we’ve designed this year’s tournament to be a day full of delicious food, golf, games, and fun with friends while doing good for your community. If you knew Steve, you know what a fun, giving person he was.”

Rains says the tradition is not possible without community support. Golf is the greatest game ever invented (in my humble opinion), but sometimes it can be more than that. It can bring together communities and build something great in society.

The Rains foundation agrees.

“With the generous support of participants and volunteers, the golf tournament remains the cornerstone of the fundraising efforts for the scholarships,” according to a release. “Your participation and support will directly benefit The Rains Foundation, enabling the foundation to continue providing opportunities for education in our area. Whether you join us to play, lend a hand or simply enjoy the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.”

Team registrations and sponsorships are now open, and early registration is encouraged. Hurry though, because spots are limited.

“Various sponsorship opportunities are available, offering businesses and individuals a chance to support a great cause,” said Rains.

Since its inception, the foundation has provided over $325,000 in scholarships to 177 students from Cumberland, Fentress, Morgan, Pickett and Putnam counties.
