Greenwood to replace Mills as head of Cookeville Gas Department

COOKEVILLE – City Manager James Mills has announced that Amber Greenwood has been designated as the next director of the Cookeville Gas Department and will assume the position upon the retirement of current director, Jeff Mills.

Jeff Mills recently notified the city of his intentions to retire with March 31, 2022, being his last day of employment. He has been employed with Cookeville Gas Department for over 40 years, serving as director of the department for the past eight years. Greenwood began her employment with the city in 2015 as assistant finance director.

In making the announcement, City Manager Mills said, “The replacement of a Department Director is always a difficult decision, especially when replacing one with a such a long tenure and extensive knowledge. Amber is very capable of the duties of the department and certainly possesses the financial background to excel with the complexity of the gas industry. Her leadership is evident by the work she has accomplished as assistant finance director.”

Greenwood is enthusiastic to accept a new challenge in serving as Director. “l appreciate the City Manager’s confidence in me and look forward to working with Jeff Mills through this transition,” she said. “My goal is to continue the efficiency of the department while serving the citizens of Cookeville. I have enjoyed the work in the Finance Department and am excited to take on this new role.”

Greenwood is a native of Cookeville. She is a Tennessee Tech graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration. Additionally, she is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Municipal Finance Officer. Amber and her husband, Chris, are parents to three children, Eliza, Ruby and Olivia.
