COOKEVILLE –James Ezi-Ashi, M.D., a specialist in gastroenterology, has joined the staff at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and Cookeville Regional Medical Group Gastroenterology Consultants with fellow gastroenterologists Maan Anbari, M.D., Phillip Bertram, M.D., and Joyce Bremer, M.D., and nurse practitioner Deborah Hensley, FNP, in their practice at 438 North Whitney in Cookeville.
Dr. Ezi-Ashi is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. He received his medical degree in 1982 from the University of Nigeria’s College of Medicine in Nsukka, Nigeria. He did his internship and residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University at Harlem Hospital in New York. He then completed a fellowship in hepatology and liver transplantation at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, NJ.
Prior to coming to Cookeville, Dr. Ezi-Ashi practiced in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for more than 17 years and had a general medicine practice in Nigeria for the previous 10 years.
Gastroenterology involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the stomach, intestines and related structures such as the esophagus, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Dr. Ezi-Ashi will be performing ERCPs (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) at Cookeville Regional, a procedure used to diagnose diseases of the gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas and liver. Previously patients needing this procedure had to travel outside of the area.
