Fortis College remains committed to training the next generation of healthcare and HVAC professionals
(UCBJ) – Fortis College recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Cookeville to celebrate its new name and unveil its new brand at 1025 Hwy 111. Formerly known as Fortis Institute, the school is now operating as Fortis College.
Representatives from the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce attended the event.
“Today we celebrated a milestone moment with Fortis College, formerly known as Fortis Institute, as they officially unveiled their new name and brand,” the Chamber said in a statement.
Fortis officials said the change supports the expansion of the institution’s degree-based programs.
According to Fortis, the event marked “the campus’s transition to a degree-granting institution” and reflects its expanded academic scope and continued commitment to workforce-focused education in the Upper Cumberland region.
“This exciting change reflects the institution’s continued growth and the expansion of its degree-based programs, all while honoring 56 years of career education right here in the Upper Cumberland,” according to the statement.
Fortis College said it remains committed to training the next generation of healthcare and HVAC professionals who live and work throughout the region.
“Congratulations to the entire Fortis College team — we’re proud to have you as part of our community and look forward to the continued impact you’ll make in developing our local workforce,” the Chamber said.
Guests toured the campus and were introduced to the school’s programs and training facilities.

- James Williamson, campus president of Fortis College in Cookeville
- Representatives from the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce
- Community partners, employers, students and faculty
