Twenty-nine permits were for new single-family residential homes

Putnam County – October had 47 permits for $9.4 million worth of construction in the county, according to numbers from Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter.

Twenty-nine permits were for new single-family residential homes. In comparison, October 2022 had 39 permits for $5.5 million with only 12 of those being new single-family homes. The average price of new homes permitted in September was $300,758 compared to September 2022 of $350,416.

“In the last few months, we have seen a decline in the average cost of the homes being built,” said Porter. “Some of that could be building materials lower than last year, higher interest rates or contractors building more affordable homes. With two months to go in the calendar year, we may get close to last year’s record. Time will tell.”

The numbers are for Putnam County do not include any of the four cities.
