Construction continued at a normal pace in May 2024. May had 33 permits for $7.4 million worth of construction. 16 of those were for new single-family residential homes.
“In comparison, May 2023 had 40 permits for $7.1 million with 20 of those being new single-family homes,” said Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter. “April permits generated $28,838 in fees which operates the Building Codes Department.”
Across the state, permits trended downward.
Statewide building permits dropped 3% from the revised March rate of 1,485,000 (2% below the April 2023 rate of 1,470,000). 976,000 single‐family buildings were authorized in April, 0.8% below the revised March figure of 984,000, according to Census.gov. Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 408,000 in April.

- Housing Starts: 1,360,000
- Housing Completions: 1,623,000
