Report Also Breaks Down How Knowledge Workers and Frontline Workers Differ on AI Tool Choice
(UCBJ) – According to a YouGov report from Aug. 6, ChatGPT holds the top spot in consumer preference among U.S. AI users, but Google Gemini is making moves. YouGov’s 2026 AI brand rankings examined which artificial intelligence tools American consumers prefer and how those preferences are shifting.
“AI tools are no longer a niche experiment for U.S. consumers. They are part of how people search, write, create, plan, communicate and interact with the devices around them,” according to YouGov.
The rankings track consumer-facing, general-purpose AI tools and platforms, looking “beyond simple brand recognition to measure which tools people actually prefer to use and where that preference is trending.”
As the AI category grows more crowded, YouGov noted that brand recognition alone no longer tells the full story. “The question for marketers is not just which brands people recognize or try, but also which tools they prefer using, where that preference is moving, and which audiences are leaning toward different kinds of AI platforms,” according to YouGov.
