Calls appear to be from the same group

(UCBJ) – “Multiple Putnam County schools are currently responding to threatening calls ranging from reports of guns being in schools to a bomb threat. These calls appear to be from the same group,” the Putnam County School System said in a statement.

The calls are currently impacting:

  • Capshaw Elementary
  • Jere Whitson Elementary
  • Upperman High School and Middle School
  • White Plains Academy
  • Highland Rim Academy

Earlier this morning, Cane Creek Elementary and Cookeville High were affected, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

“ … At all schools, we are following safety protocols, locking down schools, sweeping buildings and ensuring the safety of all students, faculty and staff,” according to the statement

PCSS says as the buildings are cleared, it will issue a statement to parents.

“This is extremely alarming to parents, faculty and staff. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement officials to help catch the people responsible for these threats quickly.”

According to the PCSO, the calls are coming from the same individual, and all threats are being taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. Deputies and Officers are also increasing patrols and security presence at schools that have not received these calls as a precaution.

“We are treating every threat seriously and will continue working alongside our local, state and federal partners to investigate these threats. We will pursue whoever is responsible for these threats to the fullest extent of the law,” according to Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris.
