Move adds another layer to its broader sustainability strategy

Averitt is expanding its sustainability efforts by deploying battery-powered electric yard tractors at service centers across Tennessee through the state’s Medium and Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program.

The initiative will bring 10 TICO electric yard tractors along with charging infrastructure to key locations while the company evaluates efficiency and the impact of electric yard tractors inside its logistics network.

According to the company, the move adds another layer to its broader sustainability strategy, including:

  • Ongoing investments in fuel-efficient equipment
  • New technologies
  • Efforts aimed at reducing emissions and conserving resources

“This is an exciting step forward in our sustainability journey,” said Doug Lloyd, vice president of corporate services at Averitt. “By integrating electric yard tractors into our operations, we are reducing our environmental impact while continuing to support the needs of our customers. Programs like this allow us to take meaningful action today while building toward a more sustainable future.”

Company officials said the initiative fits into a longer-term push to operate more efficiently and responsibly while maintaining consistent service across its network.
